Fibre and a Healthy Digestive System
June 01, 2025
Fibre is often overlooked but is important for digestion and feeling full.
Fibre is abundant in vegetables, roots, fruit, wholegrains and legumes. Although it provides little energy, fibre plays an important role in digestion and helps create lasting fullness.
A diet with enough fibre supports regular bowel movement and helps nourish the gut microbiome. Many modern meals lean toward refined carbohydrates and lack fibre.
Increasing fibre should be done gradually with enough water to avoid bloating. Occasionally swapping white rice for brown rice, adding vegetables to each meal and eating fruit with the skin when suitable are simple approaches.
General information. People with digestive conditions should consult a professional about a suitable diet.
