MedTourChina Health Checkup Packages: Full Service vs. Checkup Only
December 17, 2025
Full Service manages everything — booking, interpreter, transfers, escort, follow-up. Checkup Only books the appointment; you handle logistics. Same medical quality.
When you contact MedTourChina about arranging a health checkup in China, the first question we ask isn't "which hospital?" or "which package tier?" — it is this: do you want us to manage the whole experience, or do you just need help booking the hospital appointment?
These are two genuinely different products, with different price points, levels of support and target users. This article explains both clearly so you can decide which fits your situation.
The short version:
- Full Service Package: MedTourChina handles everything — hospital booking, medical interpretation, airport or hotel transfers, and on-the-ground escort through the checkup. One payment to MedTourChina, and the experience is done for you.
- Checkup Only: MedTourChina books your hospital appointment and sends you the details. You go to the hospital yourself, pay at the front desk, and manage logistics on-site. Lower cost, more independence.
Both options get you the same medical quality at the same hospitals. The difference is how much of the experience you want managed.
What Is the Full Service Package?
The Full Service Package is MedTourChina's signature product, designed for travelers who want a completely managed experience — one where you don't have to think about logistics, language barriers or navigation.
A typical Full Service Package includes:
- Hospital and package selection consultation (we match you to the right hospital and package based on your health profile, travel dates and budget).
- Appointment booking at your chosen hospital.
- A medical interpreter (an English-speaking coordinator present at the hospital on the day).
- Airport or hotel pickup and return transfer.
- On-site escort: a MedTourChina staff member guides you through every step, from registration to final results review.
- Results follow-up: a digital report delivered after you leave, with a phone or video consultation to walk through the findings.
Who this is for: first-time medical tourists to China with limited Mandarin; solo travelers who want company on the day; travelers with complex itineraries; business travelers with tight schedules who need efficiency and predictability; anyone who prefers the certainty of a fully managed experience over DIY logistics.
The key value: you arrive at the hospital and everything is handled. Someone is with you from the moment you enter to the moment you leave with your results.
What Is the Checkup Only Option?
Checkup Only is a lighter-touch service. MedTourChina's role is limited to helping you select the right hospital and package, booking your appointment, and providing the hospital's address and preparation instructions. Everything else is up to you.
What's included: hospital and package consultation (same as Full Service); appointment booking; hospital address, map and directions in English; fasting and preparation instructions forwarded by the hospital; confirmation of appointment date and time.
What's not included: airport or hotel transfer; a dedicated medical interpreter (you may be assisted by hospital English-speaking staff where available — this varies by hospital and department); on-site escort; a follow-up consultation on results after you leave.
Who this is for: travelers already familiar with China's hospital system (repeat visitors, expats, Mandarin speakers); budget-conscious travelers comfortable managing their own logistics; long-stay visitors; groups where someone speaks Mandarin; travelers who just need the appointment booked.
The key value: lower total cost and full independence.
A Direct Comparison
- Hospital and package consultation: included in both.
- Appointment booking: included in both.
- Medical interpreter on the day: included with Full Service; provided by the hospital under Checkup Only.
- Airport or hotel transfer: included with Full Service; not included with Checkup Only.
- On-site escort: included with Full Service; provided by the hospital under Checkup Only.
- Results follow-up consultation: included with Full Service.
- Hospital payment: with Checkup Only, you pay the hospital directly at the front desk.
Which Package Is Right for You?
Choose Full Service if:
You're a first-time visitor with no Mandarin — a dedicated interpreter and escort remove all uncertainty.
You're a solo traveler — if your checkup includes endoscopy (gastroscopy or colonoscopy), sedation requires a companion to take you out of the hospital afterward. You cannot legally leave alone after sedation; MedTourChina's escort can fill this role.
You're a business traveler with a tight schedule — someone picks you up, gets you through the process in minimum time, and returns you to your hotel or next meeting.
You're combining medical with a packed itinerary — the Full Service Package is insurance against unexpected delays.
You have specific health concerns and want an advocate — a coordinator who can ask the right questions and involve the right specialists adds clinical value beyond translation.
Choose Checkup Only if:
You've been to China before and know how hospitals work; the recommended hospitals have English-friendly international departments.
You're on a tight budget and can manage logistics — Checkup Only is significantly cheaper.
You're a long-stay traveler or expat with time to navigate independently.
You're traveling with a group that includes a Mandarin speaker.
You're booking for someone else who will be with a local contact.
What Happens on the Day
Full Service — your morning: a private car picks you up around 7:00 AM; from about 7:30 to 11:00 AM you're escorted through every station (registration, blood draw, imaging, physician consultation) in optimal order with no waiting; at 11:00 AM a results review with the physician (interpreter present); at 11:30 AM the coordinator returns you to your hotel; 2-3 days later a full written report by email, with a follow-up phone consultation.
Checkup Only — your morning: you arrange your own transport; at 7:30 AM you find the international department registration counter; you register in English (staff available at most recommended hospitals, but there may be a short wait); from 7:30 to 11:00 AM you proceed through the stations with a floor guide; at 11:00 AM a results review; you arrange your own transport back; 2-3 days later a report from the hospital, with no coordinated follow-up unless requested.
The medical quality is identical. The difference is the level of management and certainty around logistics.
Cities and Hospitals
- Beijing: Arion Cancer Hospital, Raffles Hospital Beijing and others. Full Service recommended for first-time visitors, as Beijing's hospital system is large and can be confusing.
- Shanghai: Jiahui International Hospital, SinoUnited Health, Shanghai Parkway and others. Many have well-developed English services, making Checkup Only more viable for returning visitors.
- Guangzhou: Clifford Hospital and other partner clinics. Full Service is popular during Canton Fair season.
- Shenzhen: United Family Healthcare Shenzhen and Distinct HealthCare. The Hong Kong-Shenzhen transit pattern makes Full Service particularly useful.
- Xi'an: Xi'an International Medical Center. The international patient department is well developed, but Full Service is recommended given the city's appeal to first-time visitors.
Common Questions
Q: With Checkup Only, will hospital staff speak English? A: At the hospitals we work with, English-speaking staff are generally available, though depth varies. Complex medical conversations may still need interpretation. If English fluency on the day matters to you, Full Service is safer.
Q: Can I upgrade from Checkup Only to Full Service after booking? A: In most cases yes, subject to availability. Coordinators can often arrange Full Service on short notice if interpreters are available, though airport transfer may not be possible if we're notified too late.
Q: How is payment handled? A: For Full Service, MedTourChina can process the hospital payment on your behalf as part of the consolidated fee, or you can pay the hospital directly. For Checkup Only, you pay the hospital directly at the front desk. Either way, the hospital fee is the published rate; MedTourChina does not add markup.
Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule? A: The policy is flexible. Hospital-only appointments can usually be cancelled or rescheduled without charge 48+ hours in advance. Full Service packages with confirmed interpreter and transfer bookings may require 72 hours notice.
How to Decide
Choose Full Service if it's your first medical experience in China; you don't speak Mandarin; you're traveling alone and the checkup includes endoscopy; your schedule is tight; you want certainty and minimal stress.
Choose Checkup Only if you've done this before or have Mandarin support; you're budget-conscious and comfortable with logistics; you're a long-stay visitor or expat; you're traveling with someone who can assist; or the checkup is a basic tier where Full Service is a large proportional cost.
Both options lead to the same medical outcome. The question is how you want to experience the process getting there.
