Durvalumab + Tremelimumab — Dual Immunotherapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC)
July 08, 2026
Combining Durvalumab (PD-L1 inhibitor) and Tremelimumab (CTLA-4 inhibitor) creates dual immunotherapy, opening a new option for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients.
## Dual Immunotherapy in Liver Cancer
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers in Asia, including Vietnam and China. Single-agent immunotherapy is not always sufficiently effective for advanced HCC.
The STRIDE protocol (Single Tremelimumab Regular Interval Durvalumab) combines a single priming dose of Tremelimumab (anti-CTLA-4) with maintenance Durvalumab (anti-PD-L1), creating dual immunotherapy without ongoing doublet dosing — reducing toxicity compared to regular doublet regimens.
## Clinical Results
The HIMALAYA study showed STRIDE improved overall survival (OS) versus Sorafenib in untreated advanced HCC patients, making it a first-line option in many international treatment guidelines.
## In China
The high prevalence of HCC in China means hospitals like HYGEIA and GoBroad have extensive experience treating HCC with advanced immunotherapy protocols. International patients should have liver function assessed before immunotherapy is considered.
