Doctor Spotlight: Dr. Cheng Chongjie, Chongqing Medical University First Hospital

We are pleased to introduce Dr. Cheng Chongjie, a distinguished figure in neurosurgery at The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University.

Academic Achievements

Dr. Cheng Chongjie is a medical doctor, associate chief physician, doctoral supervisor, and post-doctoral supervisor. He has long been dedicated to basic and clinical research in craniocerebral trauma. He was the first in the world to propose a new treatment concept for craniocerebral trauma through cerebrovascular remodeling. His team's research has been published in renowned journals such as Lancet Psychiatry and Molecular Psychiatry.

He has led two projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one project of the Youth Top-notch Science and Technology Talent Fund of The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. These projects have significantly advanced the exploration of neurosurgical mechanisms. He has cumulatively published 17 SCI works as a main author and serves as a reviewer for multiple SCI journals, actively participating in global academic exchange and evaluation in neurosurgery.

Clinical Excellence

In 2024, under Dr. Cheng Chongjie's leadership, the hospital's neurosurgery team successfully performed the first cervical deep lymph-venous anastomosis in Chongqing to treat Alzheimer's disease. As of April 2025, nearly 80 Alzheimer's patients had undergone this surgery at the hospital. He also pioneered spinal cord electrical stimulation (SCS) double-electrode implantation worldwide, which has effectively improved limb dystonia in stroke-induced hemiplegic patients, offering new hope to countless patients.

Dr. Cheng is proficient in the surgical treatment of various forms of neurological pain, including diabetic peripheral neuralgia, dialysis-related peripheral neuralgia, migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, post-herpetic neuralgia, intractable pain after leg and back surgery, post-stroke thalamic pain, and piriformis syndrome. His extensive clinical experience and surgical skill have earned high praise from patients.

Global Recognition

In 2019, Dr. Cheng Chongjie received the "Young Neurosurgeon Award" from the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), a high-level recognition of his academic and clinical achievements in the global neurosurgical community.

He currently holds important positions in many professional organizations, including membership in the Nerve Injury Group of the Peripheral Nerve Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Committee of Oncology Neurology of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and roles as secretary-general of the Skull Base Surgery Branch of the Western Returned Scholars Association and secretary-general of the Neurosurgery Physician Branch of the Chongqing Medical Doctor Association. These connections facilitate international academic exchange and cooperation.
